Hot Chip brings you a pop album to the core infused with the weird genius and playfulness that has created a unique sound for the these gentleman from the old country. This so called "new age Devo" group brings an album where love and happiness are the two lyrically driving forces on the album. The songs musical aspects mirror the utter love and admiration demonstrated within the lyrics. Although most the album gives positive outlooks on love and give inspiration as well as enlightenment on the sometimes happy, sometimes sad aspects of love. the title track "One Life Stand" gives us vocal melodies and song structure of old. "Slush" presents lead man Alexis Taylor humming his way into an atmospheric melody which is layered so well it almost seems as though his voice becomes laced in between the piano and drum track as if turning into one big quilt of love lost and musical height that turns "Slush" into a stand out track on the album. Switching up the lead vocal position, the track "Alley Cats" is a song that seems to be influenced by the great guitarist, "Edge." In this tic-toc mantra that keeps layering and layering to give many heavy elements which embodies this interesting, airy song into a untapped level of musical aptitude for the band. Overall this is a feel good, poppy album that will keep you tapping and nodding your head for a long time to come.
